Rating:

Columbia Home Video’s ’Stir Crazy’ contains a nice 16×9 enhanced widescreen transfer that restores the film’s original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, as well as a good looking pan & scan transfer. The picture has a good level of detail with well-defined edges. The film’s color scheme looks slightly dated but colors themselves are vibrant and vivid without oversaturation or bleeding. Fleshtones are very natural, blacks are solid and highlights well reproduced, creating a pleasing overall picture quality.

The disc contains a monaural Dolby Digital soundtrack in English and contains subtitles in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean and Thai. The soundtrack is well produced and covers a good sonic spectrum, although it does not have a notable bass extension. Dialog is always clear and well integrated in the overall soundfield of the film.

This film shows Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor at the peak of their collaboration. The film is absolutely hilarious and wildly funny. The two have a chemistry going that is absolutely infectious and will have you laughing throughout the film’s 107 minutes.
