So far, if you wanted to burn your own CD-ROMs and have DVD capabilities in your PC the only way to achieve this was to install both a CD-burner and a DVD-ROM drive in your computer.

Now, Toshiba announced they’re going to change that with their new SD-R1002 CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, which will incorporate both capabilities in a single drive. The SD-R1002 will features writing speeds of 4x for CD-R and CD-RW and employs a full 24x speed maximum playback for CD-ROM and 4x for DVD-ROM. The drives are available now in sample quantities and will begin shipping in volume in September. Pricing is not available at this time.
