Anchor Bay are currently putting the final touches to an exciting release of
Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu – Phantom Der Nacht, which is slated for
release on February 23. The film is a successful 1979 remake of Friedrich
Murnau’s 1922 classic “Nosferatu”, featuring the great, late Klaus Kinski as
Count Orlok – or Count Dracula respectively – and Isabelle Adjani as his love
interest.
The disc will feature a brand new transfer of the film,
supervised by director Werner Herzog, as well as a brand new commentary track
by Herzog, which has been recorded only a few days ago. What will make this
edition of the film a collector’s item however is the fact that Anchor Bay are
putting the German and the English version of the film on the same,
double-sided disc. These version are different cuts of the movie and as such
maintain different feels. The disc will also contain rare “Behind-the-scenes”
footage and a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack.
Anchor Bay have signed up a
number of Herzog’s films, including Fitzcarraldo, all of which should see the
light of day in 1999.

We were also able to find out some more about Anchor
Bay’s release of The Black Hole. The disc will feature both, a pan&scan and
letterboxed version of the film. The widescreen presentation will also include
the film’s Overture, trailer and a new 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack.
