If you’re looking for laughs you’ve come to the right place – at least if you are in your late teens and twens, that is. ’Head Over Heels’ is yet another romantic teenage comedy that tries to fill a slot that has been occupied by so many other films as of late. Nonetheless, it fares pretty well. The story of a young girls who has the chance to share an apartment with supermodels and take part of their lifestyle is well scripted and executed, creating funny situations, a touching love interest with the next door neighbor, and a resounding finale. It may be nothing special, but by the same token, it isn’t a bad film either.
’Head Over Heels’ is coming to DVD in a widescreen presentation that is enhanced for 16×9 TV sets, in the movie’s original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. As expected, Universal Home Video is delivering a stellar presentation of the film here that is free of blemishes or mars and creates an intensely clear image without noise, grain or other distractions. Colors are absolutely natural looking and faithfully rendered in all circumstances the film has to offer. Blacks are deep, giving the image a refreshing dimensionality and the incredibly high level of detail that is found through the picture is also perfectly maintained in the image’s shadows. The compression is flawless and no compression artifacts are visible.
The DVD contains 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio tracks in English and French, as well as an English 5.1 channel DTS track. All tracks are beautifully mastered and make good use of the surrounds, creating an engaging presentation that is active, yet never obtrusive. The dynamic range is good, although slightly exaggerated, creating unnaturally loud sound effects at times. The wide frequency response of the tracks establishes powerful basses that are solid and pounding, while also reproducing crystal-clear high ends that are entirely free of distortion, adding noticeable sonic space to the mix. Differences between the DTS and the Dolby Digital tracks are not evident.
’Head Over Heels’ contains a few extras, such as a featurette that takes you on location with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. The movie’s theatrical trailer and biographies are also supplied on the disc.
