“Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit” was the quick sequel that followed the original surprise hit comedy in 1992. Whoopy Goldberg showed off her comedic talents in these films as a lounge singer that turns into a nun – against her will at first – but later with the conviction to be able to change the world and help those in need.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment is presenting “Sister Act 2” on this DVD in its original theatrical 1.85:1 widescreen aspect ratio on a disc that is sadly not enhanced for 16×9 television sets. The transfer is clear and devoid of grain or other film artifacts, producing a nice and stable image. The compression on the disc has been meticulously done without any signs of compression artifacting or noise. Even edge-enhancement, which is often used to give the image a “crispier” look, is held at a minimum without creating distracting artifacts. The image quality is very good with deep, solid blacks and balanced highlights, creating a great looking presentation throughout with a very natural look.

“Sister Act 2” comes with an English 5.1 channel Dolby Digital soundtrack as well as a French Dolby Surround track. The audio is well integrated, creating an atmosphere that is very alive without ever being obtrusive. Surrounds are used to enhance the spacious atmosphere and especially during the scenes inside the church, the sound reflections falling in from the rear create a realistic and immersive sound field. Dialogues are always understandable and never drowned out by the powerful music in this film.

While “Sister Act 2” is not as great a movie as the original one was, it nonetheless is a worthy sequel with some great moments. Especially the music is what makes both films so great, mixed with the zany humor resulting from the class differences presented in the films.
