Certainly, ’Legally Blonde’ wasn’t’ everyone’s bag, though I personally enjoyed the cinematic parody on blonde jokes quite a bit. With ’Legally Blonde 2’ actress Reese Witherspoon reprises her role as Elle Woods, but instead of trying to become lawyer, this time she takes on Capitol Hill. Ridiculed and dismissed, once again she show the world that the Elle Woods way is always an alternative.
MGM Home Entertainment is presenting ’Legally Blonde 2’ in an anamorphic widescreen version on this DVD that is virtually flawless. Free of defects and speckles, the image is highly detailed and beautifully brings out the colors of the film. The hot pink tones are equally well reproduced as the lush green, dark grays, while skin tones look naturally all the while. Blacks are deep and solid, giving the image good visual depth. No distracting edge-enhancement is evident and the compression has also been handled well to make sure no compression artifacts distract form the viewing experience.
A solid 5.1 channel Dolby Digital track accompanies the DVD, making good use of the surround channels. The frequency response is wide and very natural with good bass reproduction and clear high ends. The dynamic response is equally good giving the soundtrack plenty of room to work in. The music is a bit overmixed and stands out above the dialogues and sound effects, but is still very acceptable and never distracting.
The DVD comes with a good number of extras, such as an audio commentary featuring a number of members from the cast. The track is entertaining and informative, though never too serious. It is complemented by a selection of deleted scenes and a hilarious gag reel.
A featurette called ’Blonde Ambition’ is also part of the release and gives the cast and crew members the chance to talk about the movie while also offering up a few behind-the-scenes shots. LeAnn Rimes music video ’We Can’ and a Delta Nu’ interactive quiz are also included for oyur enjoyment. The DVD is rounded out by a photo gallery featuring production stills and the movie’s theatrical trailer.
’Legally Blonde 2’ is fun and over-the-top. It may not be as good as the first film, in part because many of the film’s elements have been used in the original film already, but it nonetheless makes for some enjoyable entertainment.
