Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey star in this new comedy that promises to be full of laughs. Once the movie has set up the premise – Kate playing a girl/fashion-magazine journalist trying to find a guy to date and then to drive him out of her life within 10 days for an article of hers – and McConaughey playing an advertising rep trying to prove that he can make any girl fall in love with him – it is immediately clear how this film will end, but it is the 90 minutes inbetween that are truly filled with some big laughs. There are so many moments in the film where you just cringe and think to yourself ’Ouch! This is sooo mean, ’ all the while enjoying it deviously.
Paramount Home Entertainment is bringing ’How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ to DVD in its widescreen version in a transfer that is enhanced for 16×9 TV sets. As you’d expect, the transfer is glorious, without any blemishes or defects. Every bit of detail is reproduced perfectly and the color balance of the film is flawless. No edge-enhancement distracts form the viewing pleasure and no compression artifacts are evident anywhere.
The DVD contains a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio track in English, as well as Dolby Surround tracks in English and French, making for a great showing with a wide sound field and good surround usage. The music is well integrated and is also spread wide across the speakers, while dialogues are integrated in such a way that they are always clear and understandable.
The DVD comes with a commentary track featuring director Donald Petrie that is informative and insightful. It covers some of the production in more detail and also talks quite a bit about the characters, the cast, the locations and more.
Also included on the DVD are some interviews with cast and crew members discussing the characters of the film as well as the locations. A few deleted scenes and a music video round out the release.
I haven’t laughed as hard as with ’How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ in a long time. This movie is really funny throughout and the DVD that Paramount is serving up here makes it all the more enjoyable.
