Nicely complementing Anchor Bay’s recent release of the ’Incredible Hulk’ TV episodes, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is bringing us ’The Death Of The Incredible Hulk, ’ the made-for-TV feature film that ended Bill Bixby’s and Lou Ferrigno’s successful series of Hulk adaptations.
The DVD presents the movie in its original fullscreen aspect ratio. The transfer is clean throughout and no speckles or blemishes are evident. Hover, a bit of grain is visible at times and the image appears a tad soft in a good number of shots. Colors are well reproduced on the DVD, though it should be noted, that the production is boasting a fairly muted color scheme throughout. Only occasionally the image is richly awash in colors, such as during the lab scenes, but these are limitations of the original production, not the DVD. The compression has been well handled and the DVD transfer is free of distracting compression artifacts.
The DVD features the film’s original mono audio track in English, accompanied by a Spanish dub. The track has a natural frequency response and never sound overly unnatural or harsh. The dynamic range is adequate, making for a solid presentation.
Sadly no extras are included on this release.
’The Death Of The Incredible Hulk’ is an exciting movie that put a glorious end to an era that fans have come to love. The story is well-told and David Banner’s fight to rid himself of the mutation inside of him is nicely staged. If you’re a fan of the series, there’s no doubt that you should give this DVD a spin, too.
