Rob Schneider is back with another comedy that involves a lot of women… actually girls this time. In ’The Hot Chick’ a pair of mythical earrings causes two people to switch bodies and all of a sudden a high school girl finds herself trapped in the body of a 30-year old bum. The rest is typical off-the-mill fare that generates the occasional laugh. Fortunately the movie never goes into the gross-out corner that is all too popular these days in this sort of films.
While ’The Hot Chick’ isn’t the worst movie, it is not a very good one either. The spoiled-brat girls are just so annoying and brain-dead that it hurts, and the situations not really new, so ultimately it is only Rob Schneider’s wacky performance – and Adam Sandler’s occasional cameo – that lift this film above the forgettable.
Buena Vista Home Entertainment is presenting the movie in a near-pristine transfer on this DVD in its 1.85:1 widescreen aspect ratio. The transfer is enhanced for 16×9 TV sets and absolutely clean. Colors are bold and free of noise or bleeding, and blacks are solid, creating deep shadows. No edge-enhancement is noticeable and the compression also without flaws.
The audio comes as a solid 5.1 channel Dolby Digital mix that is well presented with a wide frequency response and good dynamic range. A commentary track by director Tom Brady can also be found on the release, that offers some interesting tidbits on the movie and the cast.
A series of deleted scenes, a yearbook that takes you directly to selected highlights from the film and the ’Starlight’ music video are also included on this DVD.
Clearly, this is not a movie for everyone, but if you are looking for a silly little teenage flick that will put a smile on your face, ’The Hot Chick’ may be the one to look for.
