99 down The Jazz Singer makes it to DVD
The Jazz Singer has been one of those mysterious holdouts on DVD for far too long. Noticeably it’s one of two films from the original AFI Top 100 films list to never make it to DVD (the other being the still absent African Queen). But also, it is the first true “talkie” film and deserves a place in any discussion of film history. Warner Home Entertainment is finally releasing the film as a special 3-disc 80th Anniversary Edition.
The film has been cleaned up and the DVD will contain period cartoons, shorts (silent and sound) and the documentary The Dawn of Sound: How Movies Learned to Talk. Sounds like a great set.
On October 16th, the set arrives on DVD for $39.98.
