’View From The Top’ is a splendid comedy and I’m not sure why it didn’t get more attention at the box office. Featuring a great cast that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Applegate, Candice Bergen, Kelly Preston, Rob Lowe, Mike Myers and many others, this movie tells the story of a country-baked girl who wants to break out of her boring life and decides to become the best flight attendant in the world, steadfastly chasing her dream. Starting with a small desert-hopper airline she eventually makes it to Royal Airlines, but she finds that becoming a first-class stewardess is not as easy as it may seem.
Hilarious and sweet, the film is captivating and thoroughly entertaining, and the performances are top notch throughout. Especially Christina Applegate as the conniving, sultry dummy shines once again with the ferocity that she attacks the part with.
Buena Vista Home Entertainment is presenting ’View From The Top’ in its original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ration in a transfer that is enhanced for 16×9 viewing. The print is absolutely clean and the transfer shows no signs of defects or blemishes at all, rendering an image that is bold, rich and highly detailed. Colors are vibrant and black levels are solid, making for a great viewing. No edge-enhancement is evident and the compression is free of artifacts.
’View From The Top’ comes with a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio track that is engaging and dynamic. It makes good use of the surround channels and with its wide frequency response manages to reproduce every scene with great realism. Dialogues are well-integrated and always understandable.
A series of extras are included on the disc, such as three featurettes covering the subject of flight attendants, the music of the film and the making of the movie respectively. They are all three very interesting and entertaining, offering additional insight into the film. The disc is rounded out by trailers for other DVD releases as well.
’View From The Top’ is a great, funny comedy that certainly deserves your attention. Check it out the next time you go to the video store. It will hold quite a few laughs for you.
