With all of the hype and focus on the “Ghostbusters” special edition, many have overlooked the fact that the 1989 sequel “Ghostbusters 2” also recently hit DVD.
The new DVD features an excellent transfer that has been letterboxed at 2.35:1, which is the only way to see all four Ghostbusters on screen at once. The picture is very clear and the brightness is very good. A pristine source print must have been located, because no artifacting or scratches are present.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack starts out sounding a bit muddy, but it clears up and is very active throughout the film.
Murray is in rare form in “Ghostbusters 2”, cracking jokes non-stop. It’s also has a superb performance of a very pre-ALLY MCBEAL Peter MacNicol as the heavily accented painter who has the best lines in the film.
The DVD case erroneously offers Production Notes that are not found on the disc, and also features a picture on the back of a scene that isn’t in the film. This DVD may not be as bonus packed as the special edition of the first part, but for fans of the series, it’s a must-have.
