Paramount sign up with Macrovision
Paramount Home Video have signed a multi-year agreement with Macrovision to copy protect 100 percent of theirs DVDs produced in the US and Canada. Paramount will also use the triangular “CP” (copyprotection) logo in a substantial amount of its trade advertisements to inform video retailers its DVDs are protected. Paramount has announced it will release ten of its box office hit movies in the DVD format this October.
“We are pleased that Paramount Home Video has taken this important step in copy protecting all of its DVD releases, ” said Mark Belinsky, senior vice president of Macrovision’s Copy Protection Group. “We look forward to working with Paramount in using DVD copy protection as an effective tool to increase the quantity of DVD programs available to consumers without cannibalizing videocassette revenues and profits.”
