Warner Home Video are currently preparing a DVD Rental Program for all their distributed labels, including MGM Home Enter- tainment, New Line Home Video and HBO Home Video. This counter-attack to DIVX’s planned rollout later this year should help to further strengthen DVD’s position as a rental medium as opposed to DIVX’s fragile pay-per-view model. The program shall help and instigate smaller retailers and video rental stores to set up a DVD rental library on a low-cost, low-risk basis. The promotion will be backed by extensive television and print media advertising and comprehensive point-of-purchase promotional materials and should definitely help to take DVD yet another step closer to average consumers’ homes.
