MGM Home Entertainment presents the gripping war drama 'Pork Chop Hill' in its theatrical 1.85:1 widescreen aspect ratio, as well as an open matte transfer on this disc. The open matte transfer reveals some additional picture information than the non-anamorphic letterboxed version at the top and bottom of the screen. The transfer is very clean throughout without distracting speckles or scratch marks. The image quality of this black & white film on this DVD is remarkable with very good contrast and lots of detail. Blacks are solid and highlights are well pronounced, giving the film a thoroughly balanced look.
'Pork Chop Hill' contains an English and a French language track, presented in 2.0 channel Dolby Digital. It is well converted to this DVD without noise, although it sounds a bit indistinguishable at times as a result of its age. The disc also contains English and French subtitles which can be selected from the disc’s menu and an 8-page booklet with information on the making of the film, the true events it is based upon and the filmmakers.
This is a powerful and grim war movie, dramatic until the end, and blistering with action. Featuring a great cast throughout, this film will no doubt make its mark on you. |
