After starring in the wonderful "Ever After", one can't help but wonder why Drew Barrymore would want to star in (and executive produce!) drivel like "Never Been Kissed."
Barrymore stars as Josie Geller, an uptight newspaper copy editor who was the scapegoat of her high school. Josie is sent undercover to a high school to do a story on what today's teenagers are really like. The story is totally unbelievable and far too fluffy. The movie is neither moving nor funny (although David Arquette, as Josie's brother, gets involved in some funny situations).
Director Raja Gosnell was the editor on "Pretty Woman" and "Nine Months", so he should have been able to make this material work, but it doesn't.
The DVD of "Never Been Kissed" is letterboxed at 2.35:1, and appears to be accurately framed. The picture is very clear and there is no grain or artifacting. The color balance has been handled very well, as the bright colors jump off of the screen with no saturation. The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track sounds very good, offering a great deal of surround sound action. The only extra on the DVD is the theatrical trailer, which is letterboxed at 1.85:1. This is a nice presentation of a disappointing movie. |
