Star Trek boldly goes to season sets

Before the paradigm shifted to box sets, Paramount Home Entertainment released Star Trek on DVD the only way they knew how, as 40 individual discs. Now after learning with the more recent Trek shows on disc, Paramount is finally re-releasing the series in sets starting this summer.

The eight disc set will carry all twenty-nine episodes of the series in airdate order. Each episode is in the original fullscreen ratio, and both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround. The set does not contain the unaired pilot “The Cage”. Text Commentaries will be available on the episodes “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, “The Menagerie, Part I”, “The Menagerie, Part II” and “The Conscience of the King”. Disc eight will also contain several featurettes including The Birth of a Timeless Legacy, Life Beyond Trek: William Shatner, To Boldly Go …:, Reflections on Spock and Sci-Fi Visionaries. Original television spots and a photo gallery are also included. What is disappointingly not included are the excellent vignettes created for each episode by the Sci-Fi channel.

The season one box set in the funky looking case will arrive on August 31st of this year.
