Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment is releasing the direct-to-video sequel to the 1997 sci-fi film. Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation is coming to DVD this summer.

The movie picks up where the original film left off, right back to the frontline of battle against the arachnid warrior bugs at a desolated outpost on Zulu Angel, a storm swept planet where the first film’s arachnids gained a murderous grip over humanity. A small group of mobile infantry Troopers lead by General Shepherd find themselves taking refuge in an abandoned Federation outpost where they discover the last remaining soldier Captain Dax, who helps them fight off the encroaching arachnids. Isolated from the outside threat, the rag-tag band of fighters discover a much graver danger is actually infiltrating their unit and a terrifying new breed of enemy is hunting them down from within.

The DVD contains the film in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. An audio commentary will be included with director Phil Tippett and writer Ed Neumeier and producer Jon Davison. Two featurettes are included along with a photo gallery, TV spot and bonus trailers.

With a suggested list price of $24.96, the DVD touches down on June 1st.
