Television abounds from Fox
Several series are getting new season box sets from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment throughout the next few months.
First up is the sci-fi animated comedy Futurama: Volume 2. The second season set will be much larger than its predecessor carrying a full twenty episode season spread over four discs. Each episode will be presented in fullscreen and in its original Dolby Surround 2.0. Each episode will contain an audio commentary. Other extras will include deleted scenes, animatics, a still gallery, a video game trailer and some hidden features.
Priced slightly higher than before at $49.95, the second season will arrive on August 12 only a few months after the first season. Maybe the folks making those Simpsons box sets should take note.
Also on the cancelled animated comedy front comes The Family Guy: Season 2. Also a much larger second season, the set comes with all twenty-two episodes on three discs, including the previously unaired When You Wish Upon A Weinstein. Presented in fullscreen and Dolby Surround 2.0. Audio commentaries will be on six episodes. Also included are animatics, a pilot pitch and a series overview.
Also priced at $49.95, the set will arrive on September 9th. Several cuts from the series have been made since or before their premiere. No word on whether these cuts will be reinserted.
On the live action, the Buffy spinoff will continue in Angel: The Complete Second Season. All twenty-two episodes from the second season are included on six discs in fullscreen and Dolby Surround 2.0 with audio commentary on selected episodes. The featurettes “Making Up the Monsters,” “Inside the Agency,” “Stunts” and “Season 2 Overview”, two complete scripts and still galleries are also included.
Retail is $59.95 for the set which will arrive on September 2nd.
The second season of NYPD Blue will be a similar set to Angel with all twenty-two episodes on six discs in fullscreen and Dolby Digital 4.0 tracks. Audio commentary on selected episodes will be joined by the featurettes “Season Two: A Season of Change,” “Wedding Bell Blues” and “The Music of Mike Post” and script to screen comparisons.
Retail is $59.95 for the set which will also arrive on August 19th.
Finally, for those not interested in waiting for the complete series of The Simpsons to make it to DVD, Fox is offering a consolation prize. The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. The disc will feature various segments from the long running tradition of Halloween episodes as well as a brief collage of footage from from Trek inspired Kang and Kodos. The disc will be priced at $14.95 and will be available in time for Halloween on September 2nd.
