Disney creates self-destructing DVDs
Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced a new DVD rental format being prepared for release later this summer. The new format, tentatively titled EZ-D is coated with a chemical which reacts with oxygen, thus making the disc unwatchable after a roughly forty-eight hour period.
The new discs will be priced significantly less than traditional discs due to the disposable nature of the discs. The DiVX reminiscent format will launch in August with existing titles including The Recruit, The Hot Chick, and Signs.
