The Unbearable Lightness Of Being arrives from MGM
When Criterion lost its rights to its Orion titles, they went out of print making them very difficult to find and be enjoyed. Now MGM Home Entertainment has announced their own version of The Unbearable Lightness of Being, which while not quite as laden with extras as the original out of print version, will at least provide this landmark film to viewers.
Director Philip Kaufman achieves a delicate, erotic balance with his screen version of Milan Kundera’s “unfilmable” novel. Set during the Prague Spring and its aftermath, the film follows a womanizing surgeon (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he struggles with his free-spirited mistress (Lena Olin) and his childlike wife (Juliette Binoche). An intimate epic, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” charts the frontiers of relationships with wit, emotion and devastating honesty.
Presented in anamorphic widescreen, the film will have its audio remixed in Dolby Digital 5.1. The only available features will be a theatrical trailer.
Arriving on September 17th, the new version of “Lightness” will carry a suggested retail price of $19.98. The disc is available now at the DVD Review Store for $13.99, or you can still get your hands on the Criterion version version for $19.96.
