Despite the hundreds of Internet hoaxes claiming to help children in some vague way, the Salt Lake Police have condoned the e-mail and web campaign for a legitimate missing child report.

Elizabeth Smart was taken from her home in Salt Lake City, Utah last Wednesday by an armed assailant according to her younger sister, the only witness to the event. Mayor Rocky Anderson has set a reward for her return and endorsed a massive online campaign to find her.
