MGM Home Entertainment has just announced the release of a Special Edition of Oliver Stone’s Platoon for release on June 5, adding a number of great supplements to the film to make sure the whole package appeals to the fans of the movie.

Featuring an all-star cast, “Platoon” probes the psyche of the young soldiers who fought in Vietnam. Their camaraderie, their struggle for survival amid terrifying violence and madness of combat. Dealing with the day-to-day existence of an infantry rifle platoon of thirty guys from all walks of life, “Platoon” examines the fight between good and evil in the outfit and what it was really like to be a foot soldier (grunt) in Vietnam.

The DVD will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer of the movie with a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio track. As special features, the disc will contain an audio commentary track by director Oliver Stone, a variety of Documentaries, the movie’s Theatrical Trailer and TV Spots. To round out this release, MGM Home Entertainment is also adding an extensive Photo Gallery to the disc.
