The Ultimate Collector’s Edition of The Wizard of Oz hit shelves yesterday, but a few alternate versions have popped up as retailer exclusives. Normally, we don’t list the DVDs or Blu-rays that come with alternate covers or extra swag, but in this case, the alternate versions could save quite a bit of money and shelf space.

The Ultimate Collector’s Edition comes with a hefty price tag and plenty of extra physical goodies. Amazon and Best Buy both have a few extra trinkets thrown in on the box. but Target and Wal-Mart have taken the opposite course. Target is the only place where you can get the Three disc Blu-ray with all the extra features by itself. The disc comes in standard Blu-ray packaging rather than a large box and saves quirte a bit of money. No digital edition is available here, but all the video material is intact. Wal-Mart went even smaller by offering the first disc by itself – containing the film and a small number of features.

So now consumers have options if they don’t want a big fancy box.
