There’s good news and bad news for fans of Friday Night Lights. The third season is coming to DVD from Universal later this year, but it might not be everything you expected.

Normally DVD offers an opportunity to add content to a television release, but in this case some things are being taken away. For one thing the soundtrack will be altered due to some rights issues. This is not uncommon for television releases. But the shows will also be shorter than you might have seen on television. Due to the series’ somewhat unique showing, the show is shown on DirecTV first and then in a shorter version later on NBC. The DVD will only contain the shorter version.

The set arrives on May 19th.
