The short films of Jean Painlevé come together in a five hour anthology from Criterion with their presentation of Science is Fiction.

Painlevé was a film director, critic, theorist, and animator, yet his interests and studies also extended to mathematics, medicine, and zoology. All these strands came together in a groundbreaking, decades-spanning artistic career. This anthology features twenty-three of Painlevé’s shorts.

The three DVD set will include a restored transfer, an original score, two hours of interviews, improved English subtitles and a book.

The set will arrive for $49.95 on April 21st.
