Don’t let the poorly done, nerdy cover of ’God, Sex & Apple Pie’ ‘mislead you. This is actually a very funny and smart film with great performances and truly poignant dialogues. The story revolves around a group of friends getting together for a weekend of fun. But, of course, things don’t go exactly as planned as the partying is taking unexpected twists and turns in this sexy comedy.
The film is presented in a 1.85:1 widescreen aspect ratio on this DVD in a transfer that is enhanced for 16×9 TV sets. The print is generally clean and free of defects and the transfer is stable throughout. The compression rate seems a bit low and as a result the image is a bit blurry at times, washed out with dot crawl artifacts. The transfer also appears a bit dark for my taste, though blacks are deep and solid and never break up. Colors are natural and rich and no edge-enhancement is evident.
The audio comes as a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital mix that is very clean and clear and makes surprisingly good use of the surround channels, rendering a wide sound field as a result. Dialogues are well integrated and always understandable without being drowned out.
A selection of deleted scenes and bloopers are included on the DVD as extras, though their presentation quality is rather poor – though the scenes are hot.
Two interview clips are also included, as well as a small segment on the making of the ’Drinking Pictionary’ scene with on-set footage. All these clips are very short however.
I really believe that the amateurish cover will hurt the film quite a bit – sadly so – because here we have true independent film highlight. Witty, funny, entertaining and steamy, this is a film you should check out some time if you want to break away from the mainstream Hollywood fare some time.
