I am sure many parents will be able to identify with the tribulations, as well as the sense of pride and joy, that makes out ’Daddy Day Care.’ Eddie Murphy plays a laid-off marketing hotshot. Unable to find a new job, he and his ex-colleague decide to open a day care center, unprepared for what’s coming their way. On top of it all, Anjelica Huston as a competing day-care headmistress, intent on shutting down the Daddy Day Care operations.

Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment is presenting ’Daddy Day Care’ as a Special Edition here in its original widescreen aspect ratio, as well as a fullframe version on the same disc. As expected, the presentation is free of defects and vividly reproduces the picture without flaws or errors of any sort. Colors are vibrant, blacks are solid and no edge-enhancement is evident.

The 5.1 channel Dolby Digital track on the DVD is also very impressive with good surround usage that sometimes bombards you with noises, shrieks and screams from all directions. The frequency response is very good and creates a natural-sounding presentation at all times.

The DVD contains a series of extras, such as hilarious bloopers, and a number of featurettes covering many aspects of the production. Taking a look at Eddie’s work on the film, the children, the production etc. these featurettes add even more entertainment to the release. Combined with the games and the short film ’Early Bloomers’ this is a solid family release that Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has prepared here.

I found ’Daddy Day Care’ to be warm-hearted, funny, entertaining and charming. It is certainly not a film for everyone, but I am sure parents will get a kick out of the antics witnessed on film here, complete with sugar-induced pre-schooler stampedes and sweet moments of true affection. I had a great time watching this flick, constantly saying to myself ’Bad idea, Eddie…’ while chuckling away in anticipation of the payoff, of Murphy’s mishaps. This is great fun for the entire family!
