Inuit filmmaking is not something you see everyday. But the remarkable film from Zacharias Kunuk swept the film festival circuit and is now coming to DVD thanks to Columbia TriStar home Entertainment
When an unknown shaman curses a small nomadic community, the
curse
is still
felt years later. Atanarjuat falls in love with Atuat, a woman already
promised to the son
of the clan’s leader. In a fight, she is won by Atanarjuat causing
vengeful clan leader Oki
to plot an attack on Atanarjuat and his brother in their sleep.
Atanarjuat manage to
escape, running across the ice, embarking on a harrowing adventure to
survive in the
brutal wilderness. Atanarjuat’s journey ends when he
returns,
stronger and wiser, to claim his life and stop the curse that has
divided his people.

The disc will contain an anamorphic widescreen transfer an an original Inuit Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack with optional English subtitles. The disc will contain a theatrical trailer, but little else in the way of features.

Arriving on February 11th, the DVD will be priced at $27.95.
