12 Monkeys gets the ultimate treatment by Universal

Terry Gilliam fans, listen up! Universal Home Video is currently working on a re-release of the filmmaker’s 1995 movie 12 Monkeys and will release the film as a Ultimate Edition 2-disc set next year.

A lone time traveler from the year 2035 must solve a riddle that may save his people…but it may also take him to the brink of madness. After the world’s population is devastated by a killer virus, survivors must live in dank underground communities. Cole “volunteers” to travel into the past to obtain a pure virus sample, thereby helping scientists develop a cure. Along the way, he crosses paths with a beautiful psychiatrist and a one-card-short-of-a-full-deck mental patient. But the race is on, as Cole searches for “The Army of the 12 Monkeys,” a radical group linked to the deadly disease.

The Ultimate Edition of “12 Monkeys” will come with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and like all of Universal’s Ultimate Editions, it will contain a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital mix as well as a DTS audio track. The DVD will also contain the supplements from the previous Collector’s Edition, including the commentary track by director Terry Gilliam and producer Charles Roven, as well as a selection of deleted scenes and outtakes.

Of course we will bring you the full details and final release date as soon as Universal Home Video announces all these details and specs, so make sure to keep your eyes on the news in the days and weeks to come!
