HBO Home Video has just announced plans to release A Lesson Before Dying, based on Ernest J. Gaines best-selling novel. On January 25, the Emmy Award winning film will make its debut on DVD, featuring an English Dolby Surround and a Spanish mono soundtrack.

The film tells the story of Grant Wiggins, a teacher resigned to the racial injustice of the South who returns to his hometown in the same one-room school of his youth. Struggling to make a difference in an oppressive time and place, he is encouraged by two local women to visit prison. There, he meets a young man who is sentenced to die for a murder he did not commit. It falls upon Grant to enrich a life he cannot save, and in doing so, somehow reclaim his own, by teaching one young man a lesson before dying.

HBO Home Video has also announced that the studio will release the first season of the renown HBO comedy series Sex In The City on March 23. The series starring Sarah Jessica Parker has just won two Golden Globe awards earlier this week.
